50 Shades of Grey....(blush)

Like just about every other woman in the world, I admit that I am currently hooked on the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy books! The novels which originally began as "Twilight" fan fiction have now become one of the best selling books of the year with over 10 million copies sold so far. The first book in the series; 50 Shades of Grey has actually made E.L. James the first author to sell more than one million copies via Kindle! After hearing so much about these books; the curious side of me just had to know what they were all about....

The plot of “50 Shades of Grey” revolves around a young and naïve college student named Anastasia Steele who is seduced by a hot, rich and powerful billionaire businessman named Christian Grey. Grey persuades Steele to sign a contract that allows him complete control over her life, in and out of the bedroom. And let's just say their relationship is rather steamy! The books have received a lot of criticism calling the erotic novels 'mommy porn' with the overall reception being very mixed; people seem to either love it or hate it. I am now half way through the second book 'Fifty Shades Darker' and I am definitely a little addicted. I do admit that it has caused me to blush (fifty shades of pink!) occasionally when reading the book in public and I may have actually missed my tube stop one morning because I was so...well... caught up (hehe) in reading the book! Fifty Shades of Grey is definitely my guilty pleasure at the moment ;)

Following the huge success of the books you can imagine that this caused a fierce bidding war between leading film studios to secure the movie rights to the trilogy. Universal and Focus Features won the battle and this has now left many fans of the sexy books wondering who will be bringing the sexiness of the main characters to life on the silver screen! Rumours are all over the internet about who will or should play the smoldering leading man, Mr Christian Grey.  

My inner goddess just couldn't resist getting in on the action looking for gorgeous men who I think should play the sexiest, richest, hottest guy on the planet ;)

Let's have a look at my candidates shall we?

♥ Ryan Gosling. I think it is fair to say that I love me some Ryan Gosling any day! Ryan oozes sexyness, cheekiness and has got the smoldering eyes thing pat down. Just think a mix of his characters from Crazy, Stupid Love & Drive to channel Mr Grey plus we all know this guy can rock a suit!

♥ Alexander Skarsgard. If you've ever watched True Blood (or have a pair of eyes for that matter) then enough said. But yes he is tall, athletic and totally has the dominating, intense thing down! I can see him being sensitive yet protective. I can see him being dominating and loving. I think character wise Alexander would be a pretty perfect fit for the role.♥ Ian Somerhalder. Known for his leading role in the Vampire Diaries. Apparently Ian has expressed interest in being cast in the 50 Shades movie. I think he could pull of the sexy and sweet act and let's admit that mischievous grin is quite the asset as well.♥ Armie Hammer. At first glance Armie might look a little vanilla. BUT if you’ve read the book Christian Grey decides he’s into vanilla…soooo…he would fit the nice guy/bad guy mold pretty well.

♥...and last but not least my final pick would be Matt Bomer. Matt is not (YET) that well known as an actor but after seeing photos online of him as suggestions for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie I am completely SOLD on him playing the sexy Mr Grey! Gorgeous eyes, hair you can run your fingers through, and a body that would make any girl weak in the knees...yup, Matt Bomer has got it all looks-wise. I can go on for days just talking about this man's good looks but I'll let the pictures on this page do all that for you. To me Matt looks the ultimate Christian and think he could pull off the dominating but sweet and sexy billionaire CEO personality very well. So he gets my top vote!

All together now....PHWOAR!!!

The Hunger Games

When the Hunger Games movie came out in the UK I was one of many (girls) very keen to see it. Not to the die-hard extend of lining up for hours to get a ticket or anything because I hadn’t read the books but had seen the previews and reviews which all looked great. So as soon as it was out at the end of March me and my flatmate went to our local favourite cinema, the Electric in Notting Hill, to soak up some adventure, romance and si-fi action! We both really enjoyed the film and our next plan of action was to buy the books and read them all straight away!!

It is now about a month later and I have just finished reading ‘the Mockingjay’ which is the last book of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins. From the moment I picked up the first book I have been completely hooked and would spend any free moment of my days reading to find out what would happen to Katniss!!

Without giving too much away, the book is written in the voice of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds domination over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle until only one person is left.

The Hunger Games is the first novel in The Hunger Games series, followed by Catching Fire (my favourite) and Mockingjay. It is rated young-adult but I don’t think it’s that teenyboppy and think most people will enjoy these books! So if you want gripping, easy to read books to lose yourself in for the next few weeks then I definitely recommend picking up the Hunger Games series!

I was super obsessed with the books so this makes me very curious to see if I will still like the next two movies now that I have read the books. It’s always such a shame when you love a book so much and then movie doesn’t quite match up! But in saying that….

Sophie Kinsella is one of my favourite writers so at the airport, on my way to Norway, I picked up her latest book to lose myself in during my holiday. Because that's what happens to me when I read her books; once I start I just won't be able to put it down!

"I've lost it. :( The only thing in the world I wasn't supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It's been in Magnus' family for three generations. And now, the very same day his parents are coming, I've lost it. The very same day. Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive!!"

Kinsella's heroines are at their best when they're causing mischief, and Poppy is no exception.  The book is filled with humour, wit and a super cute love story! The book had me laughing out loud and I finished it in two days because I just couldn't wait to discover what would happen to Poppy. If you are looking for a great mindless chick-lit then I definitely recommend picking this up :)

Mini Shopaholic

I have been a true Sophie Kinsella fan ever since I first read one of her books "Remember Me". Since then I have read all of the "Shopaholic" books in the series plus every single one of her stand alone novels. Her books are always a guaranteed fun chick-lit read! So as soon as I heard she had released the sixth new book in the Shopaholic series called "Mini Shopaholic" I couldn't wait to rush to the store to get my hands on it! I have just finished reading it while on holiday so I thought I would share a quick review :)

Synopsis: 

"Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) thought motherhood would be a breeze and that having a daughter was a dream come true a shopping friend for life! But it's trickier than she thought as two-year-old Minnie has a quite different approach to shopping.She can create havoc everywhere from Harrods to Harvey Nicks to her own christening. She hires taxis at random, her favourite word is Mine, and she's even started bidding for designer bags on eBay. On top of everything else, there s a big financial crisis. 

People are having to Cut Back including all of Becky's personal shopping clients and she and Luke are still living with Becky's Mum and Dad. To cheer everyone up, Becky decides to throw a surprise birthday party on a budget but then things become really complicated. Who will end up on the naughty step, who will get a gold star and will Becky's secret wishes come true?"

My review:
I think this is a lovely light, fun and enjoyable novel to read.The writing style is as great as ever allowing the reader to quickly and easily slip back into Becky’s world, and once you’re there, it’s like you never left! I found myself laughing out loud often while reading about Becky's crazy schemes and adventures. She manages to get herself into a few messes in every story but always finds a way to sort them. She is a little silly and child-like because of her impulsiveness but she always has the best intentions. She was every bit as charming and lovable in "Mini Shopaholic" as she has been in the past five novels. I had a hard time putting it down and I definitely think "Shopaholic" fans will enjoy this new chapter in Becky's life.

Ps: I won't give anything away but the ending of the book definitely left room for a potential 7th book in the series! YAY; let's hope we'll see Becky again soon! :)
