New hair with Balayage highlights!

Hey everyone,
For the last few weeks I felt it was really getting about that time that I got some highlights in my hair again. During the summer months I don't tend to highlight my hair at all because luckily my hair naturally gets more sun-kissed over that time. But with the winter month's fast approaching my roots really need fixing! However with so much on recently; moving, trips and work I hadn't had time to fit this in. This week I desperately tried to get an appointment to get my hair done this weekend but most salons were fully booked. Since moving to London I haven't really found my go-to salon, I've more been trying different salons on the search to find my favourite. Struggling to get an appointment my friend was so kind to recommend her hairdresser to me and he was able to fit me in on Friday evening after work, perfect! :)

My friend had found her hairdresser in London, after moving here from Beijing, because he was recommend by her hairdresser in China. She was specifically looking for someone that could give her 'french' highlights like she'd always had done in Beijing. Before my appointment on Friday she told me; don't expect much of the salon, it's nothing flash but she raved about the talents of her hairdresser Cedric.

Credric works from the City, Cuts & Colours salon in Victoria, which is indeed nothing flash but promises experienced top hairstylists without the high price tag. After a consultation with Credric I decided to try comb highlights instead my standard foil ones. Comb highlights, or also known as 'Balayage' is the hottest thing in highlighting right now. Instead of applying foils it's a freehand technique where a stylist 'paints' on highlights giving the client a natural sun-kissed highlight look. I'd read quite a bit about this technique already (with celebs like Jennifer Anniston being a fan) so was definitely keen to give it a go!

As you can see Credic painted stripes of highlights throughout my entire hair to get a more natural look. I only have colour on my roots because I wanted my roots to match the ends of my hair, which means no need to take the colour all the way through to the ends (as this would only damage your hair!)
After applying the colour, he placed me under the heat for about 10 minutes to let the colour fully develop. Then he washed out the colour and gave me a quick cut (nothing special, because I am still growing out my fringe) and TADA here I am with my finished new hair:

I have to say I love my new hair! It feels so nice to be all blonde again & I think the painted highlights look FANTASTIC! Balayage is also popular because your re-growth should be more forgiving; not providing that harsh re-growth line that foil highlights can give but I suppose time will tell with that :)

Cedric actually has a great website and besides working at the salon in Victoria he also does mobile hairdressing, which means he can do your hair from the comfort of your own home at a great price!

Metallic Kimono Outfit Post =

Ever since I saw Laura in this metallic kimono on her blog 'Buy now, Blog Later' I was keen to get my little paws onto it! Kimono cardigans are pretty on trend at the moment so when I spotted this little beauty in ZARA whilst shopping in Nice and tried it on, I was sold. 

This weekend I had my friends round for flat warming drinks in Notting Hill and I wanted a casual but fun evening look so I decided to wear my new kimono :)

Actually a funny story is that when I returned from Nice and I showed my flatmate my kimono purchase, it turned out she recently had bought the exact same one, wooops! Haha oh well it shows we both have fab taste right? Now we do just need to make sure we don't wear it at the same time ;)

Joie de vivre!

As you may know the weekend before last I went away for a girly trip to the South of France for 3 days! We had a lovely time exploring the sights in Nice and Monaco and enjoyed some delicious food and wine in the sunshine. The weather wasn’t as warm as we’d been expecting but 18-20C at the end of October isn’t that bad I suppose ;)

NOTD: Estee Lauder - Metallic Sage

Hey lovelies,

I hope you all had a great weekend? Mine was pretty busy so I am really looking forward to a more relaxing week & weekend. But I am happy to announce that internet has been connected at my house so I can finally return to more regular blogging, yay! Starting off with a quick NOTD post :)

I got this Estee Lauder nail polish a little while back and am loving this shade for autumn!

It's called 'Metallic Sage' and was released as part of the Modern Mercury collection for A/W 2011.Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Metallic Sage is a deep olive/sage green shade with a gorgeous pink, gold and green shimmer that shows as a duo-chrome in some lights and as just a regular shimmer in others. In some lights it can even look like a golden brown shade. The formula of the polish is quite thin but it applies smoothly (great brush) and dries fairly quick.

In these photo's I applied two coats, but I actually think now it would have looked even better (more opaque) with three coats. 

The gold shimmer gives this nail polish a lot more depth, making a dark green/brown polish so much more glamourous. What do you think, would you wear this nail polish?

Weekend Brunches - Formosina

Most people that know me, know that one of my favourite things to do in the weekend is going for brunch! I just love having a relaxing morning and then meeting friends between 11am-12.30pm (depending on what I've been up to the night before hehe) for lots of cups of tea and delicious food. When it comes to brunch food I am a big fan of poached eggs with mushrooms or smoked salmon but then again I also can't resist a creamy honey banana porridge or fresh bread smothered with chocolate spread :) 

In London I am always exploring new places for brunch and thought I might start sharing my favourite brunch hounds on the blog, I hope you like it!

This weekend me and a friend met up at my house in Notting Hill and walked over to neighbouring Maida Vale for brunch. We decided to try out the swanky looking eatery called 'Formosina'.

This lovely little Maida Vale restaurant opened about 6 month's ago and is owned and styled by Jacqui B, who also owns the interior design shop 'Jacqui B' down the road from the restaurant. I just love the funky interior of Formosina. It has a very high girly Kitsch factor due to the crystal chandeliers, white tables but most of all the awesome art work!

All the art work in Formosina is by the artist Maximillian Wiedemann. I seriously want one of those VOGUE canvasses for my house but doubt they are in my price range...

Food wise the menu had various breakfast and lunch options but me and my friend both craved porridge so we ordered that. It was served perfectly hot, thick, creamy and topped with fresh fruit and honey. It was absolutely delicious and filled our tummies in preparation for our morning walk along Regent's canal to Regents Park. I will definitely come back to Formosina again to see what the rest of their food is like. I think this restaurant would also be a great venue for a fun girly evening dinner because the cocktails on the menu looked yum!

Happy Hump Day %

Hey my lovelies,

I am so sorry that I have been missing in action for a while. Life just seems to be a little hectic at the moment! I was in the South of France last weekend with some friends and hardly had a chance to unpack because I am off again with work tonight for the next two days. We are going to the Peak District (which is a National Park in northern England) for a team building challenge event; doing activities like sailing, gliding and horse riding! Should be great fun, just hope it won’t be too freezing. I have packed many many layers and winter woollies so fingers crossed I don’t turn into a popsicle ;)

Beside being a busy bee, another reason I haven’t had much time to post on the blog is because I haven’t had internet at my flat since I moved house at the end of September. It’s always a bit of a hassle when you move places to sort out providers for internet and stuff like that but it should finally all be installed and ready by this weekend! Wooohooo :)

So for the moment just a quick hump day post & I promise to be back with more regular posts again next week!

To brave the slightly colder temperature outside I added my green parka that I got last autumn from H&M (as seen here). This jacket is the perfect cover-up for this time of the year plus it has a hidden hood which is great for those un-expected moments when you get caught out in the rain! I have started to packed away some of my summer clothes and geting the autumn & winter wardrobe ready, have you? xoxo

Celebrate Chocolate Week the guilt free way!

It's officially National Chocolate Week this week, hoorah! However, do we ever actually need an excuse to indulge in chocolate? Anyways instead of tempting you with lots of amazing chocolaty things I will tell you about a delicious guilt free treat you can spoil yourself with this week, or any other week for that matter…. :)

Treat yourself to a “Hot Chocolate Face Mask"!
When a sample of this mask arrived at my desk earlier this week, my friend the Bright Blonde was keen as (cocoa) beans to pamper herself with a bit of hot chocolate fun! This is her little review…
”Well it is exactly what it says on the pack! It’s hot, its chocolate and it orange :)

It’s gorgeous to apply, it smells delicious and it’s difficult not to lick it. So much so that I did have a little lick and I would say that people should refrain from licking it. It doesn’t taste as good as it smells or looks. I luckily applied it with a ‘chocolate orange’ to hand and nibbled on that whilst I had the mask on. It’s messy but it’s really rather decadent.” The self heating (yes it’s an actual HOT chocolate mask) cleanses dirt and oils from deep within pores and will leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed. 

As you can see she was well and truly in chocolate heaven :)

Looking a little TOWIE but loving it!

Last night I went to an event at Vanilla (which is this uber glam bar in the London West End)  where I got to browse around the latest & greatest by Kiehl’s, Shu Uemura and Biotherm. On arrival I was instantly mesmerised by all the fabulous fake lashes the Shu Uemera people had on display and was so lucky to get myself fitted with some rather fluttery lashes! Normally I tend to go for the more ‘natural’ fake lashes look but last night I was drawn to a slightly bolder pair. I have to say I felt rather TOWIE but actually loved it :)
For anyone that’s not familiar with TOWIE – this stands for ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ which is a popular (scripted) reality TV show in the UK. Basically girls from TOWIE are all about trash/glam including fake-tans, fake-boobs, fake-hair and fake-lashes!
What do you think? It’s a bit more dramatic than I am used to and to me it felt  quite obvious & fake but when I met some girlfriends for dinner after the event they all said it looked really nice. I got to keep the lashes so I might attempt to put them on again for a glam night out :)

Happy Hump Day to you all :) Hope your week is going well. Mine has been pretty busy and is flying by which suits me fine! Bringing my skin into its Comfort Zone

For the last few weeks I have been using these new face day & night creams and am loving them so just wanted to write a quick (rave) review on these products. The brand is called [Comfort Zone]. I wasn’t that familiar with the brand but apparently it’s growing in popularity in the UK and distributes to over 40 countries in the world. [ Comfort Zone ] is a luxury Italian spa brand, developed in 1993 by a team of spa professionals and dermatologists, headed by Italian pharmacist, David Bollati. The [Comfort Zone] is described as “an exclusive space for oneself, a complete product line of beauty treatments and rituals, cosmetics and elements of design to render every moment of one's life a pleasant interlude of well-being.” Their European philosophy of skin care is based on the knowledge that the skin, in its state of maximum balance, affects the mind, creating a marvellous feeling of harmony. [Comfort Zone] acts involving all the senses, with extraordinary effects, through touch, smell, sight, hearing and taste.

First up the 'Sacred Nature Day Cream' which is a nourishing anti-aging rich face cream.
"A rich, concentrated nourishing cream formulated with exclusive natural and organic active ingredients and enveloped in a texture which is soft and easily absorbed. With powerful anti-aging actions and a daily vital defence, it is also the ideal protection for cold climates, ensuring the well-being of the skin." Contains lovely ingredients like organic buriti oil, butterfly bush extract, shea butter and orange distilled water to provide you with skin protection and anti-aging effect all in one.

There are a range of products available in the Sacred Nature skincare line which is all about formulas made from natural and organic active ingredients (natural, ecocert-certificated fragrances; no chemicals, parabenes, silicon or artificial colourings) plus the use of environmentally friendly packaging components.

I love the packaging and wooden chunky lid of this product, and upon opening you are immediately hit with an amazing orange-flower and vanilla fragrance. I have normal skin so I don't usually like any face creams that are too heavy because it just makes my skin oily and shiny. So I was a little apprehensive about this 'rich' cream but it turned out to have a gorgeous silky texture; it completely melted away after a minute of massaging it into my skin. My face felt hydrated for the hours and there was no hint of oily sheen to be seen! I have been impressed with how moisturising this cream is and think this cream would be great for anyone with dry to normal skin and because of its organic and eco-credentials, this is a lovely product for those looking for a natural approach.

Next is the 'Renight Recover cream:
"A soft rich night cream with antioxidant and protective actions for dehydrated, depleted and stressed skins. Contains Goji berry oil, hyaluronic acid and lycopene." The Goji berry is a precious fruit originating in Tibet and which traditionally has miraculous anti-aging attributes.

The texture of this product is so luxurious and creamy and it smells delicious!! I pretty much look forward to taking off my make up off every night now to treat my skin to some pampering and when I wake up in the morning my skin looks fresh, radiant, restored and feels silky smooth! This product would good for all skin types especially sensitive as it protects the skin from external factors.
These products are definitely bringing my skin into its comfort zone, prepping them for tougher times ahead with winter fast approaching! Had you heard of [Comfort Zone] before?

Show your inner light: Aveda tinted moisturiser

I have always been very much a ‘liquid foundation kind of girl’ because I prefer to use a foundation that provides me with medium to full coverage. But even I have days where I feel like a more naturally glowing makeup look. A few months ago I came across Aveda’s new tinted moisturiser and I ended up using it a lot over summer for those hot days where you want a lighter/fresher face whilst still providing sheer to light coverage to hide any imperfections.  

Aveda, Inner Light is a mineral tinted facial moisturiser containing SPF15. It’s oil-free and non-acnegenic formula is lightweight, making it feel like you are not wearing anything yet giving you a smooth and even finish of sheer to light coverage with a dewy finish – allowing your inner light to shine through ;)

It has a refreshing smell and is full of certified organic ingredients such as:
♥ Titanium dioxide - a mineral derived sunscreen that helps provide protection against UVA UVB rays
♥ Coconut and jojoba seed - provide natural emollients that deliver oil-free hydration for soft skin with a dewy, moisturised finish.

I think this tinted moisturiser is great for those “no makeup” days like when you are going to the beach or to the gym!  But I also love wearing this tinted moisturiser, paired with a bit of concealer under the eyes and finished off with a quick dusting of powder for a more natural glowing makeup look.  Here is a recent face of the day with the Aveda TM:
The formula absorbs and blends in easily (I just use my favourite stippling brushes to apply) leaving your skin looking luminous and deeply hydrated at the same time. In that respect this tinted might not be that suitable for people with oily skin as I can imagine it could all become a little too shiny and oily but for me it’s perfect for a lighter and fresher look!

British actress and model Emma Watson is the cover girl for ELLE's (UK) November issue. She was photographed by Rankin for this fun, colourful, cute and quirky photo shoot. Just wanted to share this because loved these pictures - think Emma has changed so much since first appearing in Harry Potter at the age of 9! She's now a fully fledged fashionista :)

The issue featuring these pictures and an interview with Emma hit news stands in the UK today.

Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month! >

Wow I honestly can’t believe that it is October already; 2011 is just flying by! As much as I love summer, I am also a big fan of autumn; the changing of the seasons, the coloured leaves on the roads and those beautiful chilli but sunny autumn days.

These days October is also known world-wide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

A few days ago I was invited by the Estee Lauder Group in London to learn all about the 2011 Estée Lauder Companies’ 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Did you know that The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign actually began in 1992 when Evelyn Lauder and Alexandra Penney created the Pink Ribbon together? It is now the universal symbol for breast health worldwide!

At the event the Estée Lauder Companies talked about celebrating its 19th year in the fight against breast cancer. The theme for their 2011 BCA Campaign theme is “TOGETHER. Connect. Communicate. Conquer. For a Future Free of Breast Cancer.”

There was an inspirational speech about the importance of breast cancer awareness which touched many of us because it seems almost everyone knows someone personally affected by breast cancer. The Glossy Box Experience

You've probably read so much about the Glossy Box concept already because it's been all over the blogs here in the UK but for you that haven't really heard about it yet, here are my two cents on it all.
What is it? GlossyBox is a monthly subscribtion where you receive a box filled with a surprise mix of five high-end miniature beauty samples. It costs £12.95 per month and will provide you each month with a selection of what's hot in hair, beauty, scent and body care. I was very lucky to receive their September Glossy Box to expience it all for myself.

This what it looks like; I've got to say I was impressed with the girly and luxurious packaging.

The main benefit of the Glossy Box experience is that is you can easily (and from the comfort of your sofa) discover new types of products that you wouldn’t normally pick up and try or hear about.
So let's check out the products I got in the September Box:

The main product that caught my eye was the HD brows kit because this has mentioned a lot in the press recently plus I am still on the look out for my holy grail brow shaping/filling set. 

So when I saw the HD brows palette in the box I got super excited. My excitment however subdued quite quickly once I saw that the palette I got was in the colour 'Vamp' which is meant for people with dark hair :( I suppose this is one of the downsizes of Glossy Box, you don't necessarily get products that are right for your colouring/skin type/hair type. On their website they do say that when you subscribe you complete a beauty profile to allow them to match the products as best as possible to your personal beauty and styling requirements, but I have heard some grummblings on the internet that this matching isn't always so accurate..

The palette is created by eyebrow experts HD Brows and contains four matte eyebrow colours, which can also double up as an eye shadow and eyeliner.

Top row: Nude & Carbon
Bottom row: Dark brown & Rich brown

You can apply this to brows, sweep across the lid, or precision apply along the lash line to give a soft but defined eyeliner look. The nude shadow is a great finishing touch for highlighting under brows and enhancing the brow bone.  The only shade that really works for shaping my brows is the dark brown (and this is only when I am aiming for a quite strong/dark and defined brow look) but I have to say I love the texture of these shades. Matte, highly pigmented and extremely long lasting. This palette usually features for £19.95 retail which I think is quite pricey and as much as I am enjoying using this palette I think there are probably cheaper alternatives out there that provide a similiar result, especially because in the end you don't really need 4x shades for your brows right? All you need is that one perfect shade to shape & set your brows, so my search for this holy grail product continues - please tell me what brow shaping product do you use and love??

Overall I think the montly Glossy Box concept is a great idea. I really liked the balm and hair shine spray (even though it's a little too fragranced for my liking) but the perfume and exfoliating salt weren't really up my alley. So would I sign up for this service? Probably not. Just because I have a huge collection of beauty products already and I think I prefer to have some sort of power over what I buy instead of paying a monthly fixed fee for a variety of sample products with the risk I might not like any of them.
