Looking a little TOWIE but loving it!

Last night I went to an event at Vanilla (which is this uber glam bar in the London West End)  where I got to browse around the latest & greatest by Kiehl’s, Shu Uemura and Biotherm. On arrival I was instantly mesmerised by all the fabulous fake lashes the Shu Uemera people had on display and was so lucky to get myself fitted with some rather fluttery lashes! Normally I tend to go for the more ‘natural’ fake lashes look but last night I was drawn to a slightly bolder pair. I have to say I felt rather TOWIE but actually loved it :)
For anyone that’s not familiar with TOWIE – this stands for ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ which is a popular (scripted) reality TV show in the UK. Basically girls from TOWIE are all about trash/glam including fake-tans, fake-boobs, fake-hair and fake-lashes!
What do you think? It’s a bit more dramatic than I am used to and to me it felt  quite obvious & fake but when I met some girlfriends for dinner after the event they all said it looked really nice. I got to keep the lashes so I might attempt to put them on again for a glam night out :)

Happy Hump Day to you all :) Hope your week is going well. Mine has been pretty busy and is flying by which suits me fine! I am counting down until Friday morning because then I will be off to Nice, in the South of France, for a 3 day weekend with some girlfriends. I can’t wait to soak up the last bit of sunshine and warmth before winter officially arrives. 
PS: shall I tell you something shocking? It’s only 10 weeks until Christmas……Ahhhhhhhh!!! xoxo

Fresh at Wireless Festival! :)

From Friday 1 July to Sunday 3 July, the Wireless Festival 2011 took place in Hyde Park London with some great acts lined up for the three day event. Me and my friends got tickets for the Friday which featured artists like Bruno Mars, David Guetta, Alexis Jordan, Tinie Tempah, Far East Movement, Chipmunk and the Black Eyed Peas!!

It was such a great day out in the sun sunshine, drinking, eating, dancing & singing our little hearts out :)

Outfit wise I went for something casual, summery and fun. I wore a ZARA silky blue jumpsuit that I got last summer, matched with black flat sandals, aviator sunglasses and curly hair with side braids! You can see my 'festival look' in the below picture which is one of my favourite photos of the day!

In this pic is Tanya, a close friend of mine, who beside being a super cool chica is also a super talented photographer ;) She was working at Wireless that day for Barclay/Unwind to film and photograph the event. Diane and 'Be the woman you want to be'

When an invite arrived a few weeks back to attend the launch of Diane Von Furstenberg's new fragrance in London, I was beyond excitement! Why, because turns out she would actually be there to promote the new scent herself. So last week I headed out to the West End to the DVF Boutique in Bruton Street to meet Diane and I have to admit, I was a little nervous to soon be face-to-face with this amazing fashion icon. 

First off I have to start by saying that as soon as I walked in I fell in love with the DVF store! It is so beautiful, intimate and the clothes, oh don't get me started on the clothes....I wish I could have walked out with every single item in there! 

So colourful, so timesless, so beautiful, so elegant, so powerful.....basically just so 'Diane'! :)

Now onto the amazing lady Diane von Furstenberg herself. I was completely blown away by her personality, charisma, elegance, beauty, style and intelligence. What an inspirational woman!

She spoke so passionately about her life, her career and what inspired her to create this fragrance. 

Apparently, Diane's experience in fashion has helped her observe the power of fragrance and the fact that according to Diane “People forgot about the power of perfume and the magic of perfume. Perfume has been used since antiquity to seduce. It is about emotion; it is memory and addiction."

This is the reason that inspired her to create a new fragrance, a fragrance which will capture the essence of beauty and seductiveness. Diane von Furstenberg told in an interview that: “Everything I saw and everything I do is all about the same thing: Be the woman you want to be. It’s all about empowering women.”

Diane said on the day 'in this bottle I have put all my knowledge, all my seduction tricks and all my power. So this is quite something" OK I am sold, where do I sign up? ;)

So now last but not least onto the fragrance 'Diane'. 
"Created by and for an independent woman, for those who are full of life, power, passion and subtle complexity. Much like the iconic wrap dress 'Diane' envelopes the body to give a woman glamour, shine and confidence." Floral notes of frangipani and violet are “the yin and the yang,” as D.V.F. puts it; flowers that contrast, which is the way she sees women.

The Diane fragrance was created with the help of Chantal Ross and crafted by Aurelien Guichard of Givaudan and the frangipani and violet flowers are fused with base notes of murrh, musk and patchouli which add a touch of warmth and power to the scent.

I have to say, I love this fragrance, it's beautiful! It's a real classic, womanly, sexy and sophisticated scent. If you are a typical young, sweet and fruity kind of fragrance girl this might not be for you. It's more a woody floral fragrance which I believe will be a real classic and hit for woman that are early to mid 20's and upwards. It's powerful and classic yet fun and fresh at the same time! All I can say is, go smell for yourself and be swept away by Diane's new fragrance. 'Be the woman you want to be' 

After Diane's talk to us all about the new fragrance, she circulated the room, sharing the fragrance and tying scented ribbon around her admiring audience's wrists. This is when I got my photo opportunity! OK it's a terrible photo of me but who cares, I am standing next to Diane von Furstenberg. A moment I will remember for a long time....

The fragrance 'Diane' will launch exclusively in Harrods and DVF boutiques from 16th October 2011. It will be available nationwide from early 2012. Prices start at £47 for the Eau de Toilette and £64 for the Eau de Parfum.

MTV Movie Awards 2011 - Best & Worst

The 2011 MTV Movie Awards were held at the Universal Studio’s Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday (5 June) in California. I always like checking out the looks from the MTV Awards because they are a little bit more fun, young and trendy! Here are some of my Best & Worst pics of the event:

Best

♥ Blake Lively is beautiful in blue! She wore a Michael Kors dress & Louboutin shoes.
♥ Mila Kunis presented an awards on stage with Justin Timberlake wearing a Balmain black top and an embellished skirt from the Fall 2011 collection. As always, sexy, appropriate, fun and LOVE her makeup!
♥ Emma Stone in a sheer Bottega Veneta dress. She’s swapped from blonde to redhead for the upcoming Spiderman movie. I like both blonde and red on her really – she’s very beautiful.
♥ Emma Watson in an ivory jewel encrusted Marchesa short white dress. Emma’s got amazing style, love it!
♥ Brooklyn Decker sparkled on the red carpet in a gold No.21 dress! A little heavy looking on the top but am always a big sequin fan so still liked it lots!

♥ Hailee Steinfeld suited up in a Louis Vuitton tux with Christian Louboutin heels. It’s quite a grown up look for the 14 year old actress but I think it looked classy & loved the red lippy and green little clutch!
♥ Amber Lancaster in a sequin dress, not quite sure who she is but liked the dress and her wavy hair!
♥ Model Erin Heatherton in a cute white dress! Amazing legs and what a smile!
♥ Nina Dobrev looked cute and stylish in a Georges Chakra Couture ruby and bronze bow embroidered strapless dress. Spotted this on a few worst dressed lists and yes maybe it does look a little 'Christmas presenty' there's something about her look that caught my eye in a good way.
♥ Reese Witherspoon, gotta love her, dazzled at the ceremony in a black & great Vivienne Westwood dress that was age appropriate, fun yet sexy! Reese was honoured with the Generation Award. She’s the youngest recipient up to date! She fully deserves it though, Reese is one of my favourite Hollywood actresses!

Worst

★ Gossip Girl Jessica Szohr in an Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet jumpsuit. Too much going on for my liking and not very flattering. She's such a beautiful girl - a shame!

★ Amanda Bynes in an Herve Leger dress. Not sure what's going on with this girl, I thought she'd announced via Twitter she was retiring from Hollywood. I think the dress is a little too tight and short and not very flattering on Amanda. Plus the green Christian Louboutin shoes are really cool but what on earth was she thinking matching them with this dress. Total fail!

★ Bryce Dallas-Howard showed off her baby bump in a J.Crew dress. Didn’t hate it, but didn’t love it either!

★ Nicki Minaj. She’s got some electric and funky style which is great. It’s just not MY style haha.

★ Elle Fanning looked a little bit more festival than red carpet in a Dolce&Gabbana floral romper with matching (hideous) platform wedges.

Kim will be there between 12.30pm and 2pm. I bet she will be showing off her massive $2 million dollar rock of an engagement ring!!! (Jealous.....)

NARS - Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself

The other night I was invited to Harvey Nichols in Knightbridge to check out the new NARS makeup book, plus to experience one of their amazing 'MakeUp Your Mind' masterclasses for myself!

In 2001, François Nars published Makeup Your Mind, a best selling beauty manual featuring glossy photographs uniquely overlaid with clear instructional guides. The first in a series of three books, featured professional models photographed 'before' (without makeup) and 'after' (with makeup), demonstrating the transformative effect of makeup effect plus instructions on how to achieve the looks at home! 

In his new book, Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself he takes the before-and-after concept to the next level by transforming 56 real women and men scouted on the streets of New York City. The people vary in age from 16 to 64, and represent a wide range of countries including Russia, South Afrika, Guatemala and Sweden. I love the fact that in François books, he doesn't just write about the makeup application, but shows readers how it’s applied by including “before” and “after” pictures overlaid with clear paged diagrams, it gives you a great instant visual of the transformation!

At the event I got to have a good look through the book and check out all the amazing transformations!
Then I got told to pick a look that I liked, for one of their talented makeup artists to transform moi :)
I chose a look called 'the Ballerina' because I really liked the soft eye matched with a bright pink lip!This is me at the end of my Makeup Your Mind Masterclass showcasing the finished look! I really loved the result, because it's quite different to my usual makeup looks! On my lips he used the new 'Carthage' Pure Matte Lipstick, which has just launched as part of their Summer 2011 Collection. I want.... ;)

If you are looking for a beauty manual book then I think Makeup Your Mind; Express yourself is fantastic because it provides very detailed instructions to create so many different looks ranging from natural and demure to dazzling and outrageous. It's also lovely to see the looks on real men and woman with different skin tones, face shapes, ages and ethnicities. I also really like that on the clear overlay it will say 'champagne eyeshadow' for example so if you don't have the particular NARS product used, you can still recreate the look with a similar product that you do own.  The book provides insider knowledge from François but also encourages people to be who they are and express their individuality through makeup. In a recent interview with François he talked about how he came up with the looks for each subject:
"Instead of crafting each look based on what suited the individual's personality, I focused on bringing out her or his natural beauty, rather than concealing it. Ideally you want someone to say to you, "you look great!" rather than, "your makeup looks great". You should always see the person first and the makeup second" I think this is SO true!

M.A.C BAFTA Runway to Red Carpet Event‏

Last week I was so lucky to be invited to a M·A·C BAFTA Runway to Red Carpet Master-class event! Because M·A·C is the official beauty partner to the Phillis British Academy Film Television awards taking place on Sunday 22 May at Grosvenor House in London, M·A·C Make-Up Artists from the M·A·C Pro Team will be on hand to provide make-up services to VIP's in town for the awards at the M·A·C Beauty Style Suite at Pelham Hotel in South Kensington.  

A group of us bloggers got an amazing look around the Beauty Suites and got to experience a style suite red carpet masterclass hosted by M·A·C senior artists, Lynsey Alexander & Neil Young. They demonstrated two contemporary yet iconic looks and shared many fantastic tips!

On the night I took some little video's while they were doing the make up and caught some great tips on camera which I wanted to share with you all:

Here even more top tips on creating stunning red carpet makeup and keeping it camera flawless all evening long! And even though you or I probably won't be attending a red carpet event any time soon haha, I think these tips are perfect for any girl that wants to create beautiful long lasting evening makeup looks:

♥ Lynsey Alexander on skin:

'For camera ready skin it's important to spend a bit of time prepping before you apply foundation. If you have time, exfoliating will ensure your skin is at its smoothest, allowing further products to glide on easily. Add a brightening serum before you apply moisturiser or alternatively a luminising cream such as M·A·C Strobe Liquid. Apply foundation to create a dewy glowing skin, my favourite is 'Studio Sculpt' foundation because it is gel based and acts like a second skin leaving a creamy satin finish on the face.  Set your base with a light sweep of M·A·C Mineralize SPF15 Loose Finishing Powder and make sure you have a blotting compact for touch ups (this will remove shine, without adding more coverage).' Lynsey Alexander

♥ M·A·C Senior Artist Caroline Donnely on highlighting:

'With intense flashes from the cameras on the red carpet the face can sometimes become 'bleached' out, flattening the features. Adding highlights to the cheekbones, cupids bow and brow bones works beautifully. Cult M·A·C product Strobe Cream when applied to the bridge of the nose adds a gorgeous glow as well as to the already mentioned areas'

♥ M·A·C Senior Artist Pablo Rodriguez on eyes:

'Eye makeup for red carpet is generally very neutral. Neutral meaning more brown and greys used rather than any other colour. This however does not mean natural. There is ALWAYS a glamour element to it, Sculpt the eye shape with long socket lines, and shading under the eyes too, M·A·C shadow in Wedge is a great shade to do this with.  Eyebrows must be groomed and defined, but still kept soft. M·A·C brow set in clear is a perfect tool to achieve this!' 

♥ M·A·C Senior Neil Young on Styling your makeup to your outfit:

'There are many ways to approach your makeup styling once you know what you are wearing. If the dress and hair reflects an iconic era then it makes a great statement to continue your makeup along the same theme. We see it often with regards to the classic red lip/brow and a chignon hair style. However try to keep the feel modern by considering texture as much as colour, to bring the makeup up to date and on trend. Be very cautious about matching makeup to the colour of the dress, more often than not a monochromatic makeup works best, so select tones that work with your dress rather than it match it exactly. Also remember, less is more! When the dress is already making a big statement, you can never go wrong with a classic contemporary makeup.'

I truly loved this event! It was fabulous to get one-on-one time with such talented senior makeup artists to be able to ask them questions and I ended up leaving feeling very inspired! :) Now I can't wait to see what looks M·A·C will be creating on the celeb's on May 22 at the BAFTA Awards. On Saturday I was invited by Bourjois to preview their new 2011 spring/summer collection called 'Paris Ballerine'.  The collection is right on trend with the current ballet hype! It's filled with gorgeous & glowing soft pinks and silver shades to create the perfect youthful and romantic look! A group of us bloggers got to enjoy yummy treats (just check out those cupcakes, nom nom) & got a demonstration of how to create a romantic smokey eye and swatch all the new collection products.

These shades really suit my complexion. The light pink shade is frosty is perfect for all over the lid or used as a highlighter. The silver can be used in combination with the soft pink for a romantic look or mix with black for a more edgy look! The silver is quite glittery so can cause a bit of fall out when applying. An option to avoid this would be to apply the shade wet which would also increase the intensity of the colour.

A lovely pink highlighter to apply on high end of your cheekbones for that glowing look!

I got the Rose Satin which is a opaque pink nude and great for an everyday classy nail colour.

Day of Pampering with Aussie & Herbal Essences

On the weekend I was invited for a lovely day of pampering at the luxurious Soho Hotel in London! I'd been at this hotel before for an event and love it's fabulous design and style. Aussie & Herbal Essences had rented this AMAZING hotel room for the afternoon where we got to meet Liz Taw, Aussie ambassador, to get a mini hair styling session, get our make up touched up and nails done. Plus there was a range of tea/drinks and treats for us to enduldge in. What a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Plus I got to catch up with other beauty bloggers like the lovely Jen and Hayley!

Liz Taw, the hair stylist, gave me some great tips on how to use my straightening iron and velco rollers to create a 'blow-dry' effect at home! Basically grab a lock of hair & glide it through your iron's with a comb - then apply your velco rollers, spray some hairspray on them & let the hair cool. Then apply your make up, have your breakfast or just chill out and when you take the rollers out (once cool) you will have the same blow dry volume effect without the struggles of not having enough hands to blow dry & use a round brush all at the same time (I admit - I fully can't do this!) Give it a go, I'm really liking the results!

On the day Aussie also introduced us to their new 'Lusciously Light' conditioners!

I am already a big fan of AUSSIE shampoos and conditioners. My favourite is their 'Take the Heat' Range.
I personally don't mind this too much but a lot of people find their conditioners quite heavy! Bourjois - Little Round Pots

At the end of November I was invited by the wonderful people of Bourjois to a bloggers event at their funky London office to check out the launch of their new and improved Little Round Pots!

Can you believe that Bourjois's little round pots have been around since 1863? Their new formula is hypoallergenic, paraben & fragrance free and the new texture contains mineral pigments making the eyeshadows ideal for sensitive eyes. The silky soft formula is easy to blend and doesn't fade or smudge. What's more the baked powder formula can be used wet to intensify the colour! 

At the event, beside being treated to some DELICIOUS food and drinks, the talented Cassie Lomas demonstrated a couple of great looks and techniques using the new Bourjois eyeshadows. There are 22 colours from natural highlighters to cutting edge brights in the range and they have added 8 new shades to fit with season trends! At the end of the day we got to pick 8 little round pots to take home with us! Christmas came early for me that day ;)

I have swatched Bourjois eyeshadows before in the past but was always a little dissapointed with their pigmentation. However I think the new formula is a huge improvement. Especially when using them wet, they have a real WOW factor to them! Plus when priced at only £5.99 per pot; that's fantastic value for money. 

My favourites are:

♥ 08 - Beige Rose Delicate. A gorgeous shimmery cream shade. Very pigmented and smooth, non glittery. Perfect for on the lid or as a brow highlight.

♥ 93 - Tabac Blond. A warm and velvety bronzed gold colour. 

♥ 74 - Brun profond. A plum brown eyeshadow with blue accents.

What a night! Christmas, Champagne & Perfumes $

Last week I was so lucky to get invited to my first ever London blogger event! L'Oreal Prestige & Collections hosted a fabulous evening at the gorgeous Soho Hotel for us to get a preview of their Christmas Fragrance collection. 

There was a range of delicious smellies on display which we all got to sample whilst sipping french champagne and enjoying canape's! I think Christmas is the best time to buy fragrances because I love how you usually get stunning gift sets.  Some of the brands on display that night were: Ralph Lauren, Georgio Armani, Diesel, Stella McCartney and Cacharel.

♥ The Victor & Rolf 'Flowerbomb' Gift Set, the bottle comes in a unique décolletage case with the Bombalicious Shower Gel & Body cream. SUPER cute! Flowerbomb is one of my all time favourite perfumes!

♥ Getting into the Christmas spirit with all the fragrances on display - even in the Christmas Tree!

After sampling all the fragrances we got to choose one to take home! After a lot umming and arring I choose Emporio Armani Diamonds because I really loved the smell and the design of the bottle :)
