Best & Worst - 2011 SAG Awards=

The 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday in Los Angeles.
The King’s Speech came out as the big winner of the night with two awards. The film picked up Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Colin Firth.  Other winners in the evening included Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Betty White, and Alec Baldwin. Sharing my quick best & worst picks from the Red Carpet!

Best

January Hones wore a gorgeous Caroline Herrera Dress, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Roger Vivier shoes, and a Tod’s bag. She looks so glamous, hollywood and I love the hair and makeup-perfectly styled!

Natalie Portman is back on my best dressed list – yay! Finally she's wearing a gorgeous frock showing off her newly pregnant belly! She’s wearing an Azzaro’s “Jungle” gown plus apparently $2 million worth of Tiffany & Co. jewellery! (jealous much?)

Mila Kunis. The 27-year-old Black Swan actress chose an Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 strapless chiffon gown. It’s from the same collection as the dress Michelle Obama recently wore. Wasn’t such a fan of that dress but LOVE this one and the sultry curls and make up really complete this look!

Lea Michelle. The 24-year-old Glee actress chose an Oscar de la Renta blush crepe de chine caviar bead embroidered gown, Sergio Rossi shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewels, and a Daniel Swarovski bag. The dress fits Lea's petite frame beautifully and the thin, gold belt compliments the silvery-white dress wonderfully.

Worst

Kate Mara (pictured with boyfriend Max Minghella). The 27-year-old 127 Hours actress wore a nude dress that's Hervé Léger up top, but very Valentino on the bottom — it's a mash up of body con meets romantic ruffles? This Hervé Leger dress is quite pretty but don't think it's suited to Kate. Plus, I think that the colour washes her out too much and that headband is just awful.

If you think (like me) that this dress is very bridal, well that's because it is! This gown is from the Spring 2011 Bridal collection.....There's something just not quite right about this look. Don't love the dress & think the high curly up-do isn't sophisticated enough for the dress.
Kim Kardashian. Kim is wearing a plum draped chiffon gown with embroidered detail by Marchesa. The Grecian style gown was way off the mark. And think the hair looks horrible and her makeup looks washed out. Am surprised with this look because I’m normally quite a fan of Kim’s red carpet style..

Christina Hendricks. This L'Wren Scott dress, while gorgeous, I feel does nothing for Christina's lovely curves :(

My views?

I probably have to start of by saying that I don’t really own many/if any anti-aging creams at my age yet! I know some people start using these kind of creams at quite a young age, but hey I am only 26….do I really need start worrying about wrinkles and lines already? However what really interested me in trying this product was its brightening effects because I do hate dark circles and puffy eyes...(I am a true concealer addict!) What I really liked was that the cream is nice and thick, it’s 84% natural and is created not only to stop the signs of aging as such but can also help de-puff, hydrate and nourish the delicate area around our eyes! The one that you notice immediately is the fresh scent, the weightlessness of the product and you feel it tighten around the eye and brighten it up! It doesn't eliminate the need to use concealer (not for me anyway) but I did feel my eyes felt lighter and less dark after applying the product. As an eye cream, I think it's great! The one downpoint to this product I'd say would be the cost, because at £49 a pop it definitely isn't cheap. However, Caudalie has won many awards for it's anti aging products and therefore maybe once my wrinkles get worse I will really start seeing the value for money to invest in anti aging eye cream ;)

Then again should I use anti aging products to prevent wrinkles & lines? Hmm food for thought....

Loving my over the knee boots!

I recently picked up this AMAZING bargain at the sales; brand new, leather, over the knee, flat boots from Oasis. At what price? You wouldn't guess it.....£20!! I couldn't believe it when I spotted them on the shop floor tucked away somewhere and I was beyond excitement when I realised they actually had 1x pair left in my size (38/UK5) Wooop woop! I can't stop wearing them at the moment, perfect paired with leggings, skirts, dresses, jeans...well everything really! Here a recent OOTD with my new boots ♥

Day of Pampering with Aussie & Herbal Essences

On the weekend I was invited for a lovely day of pampering at the luxurious Soho Hotel in London! I'd been at this hotel before for an event and love it's fabulous design and style. Aussie & Herbal Essences had rented this AMAZING hotel room for the afternoon where we got to meet Liz Taw, Aussie ambassador, to get a mini hair styling session, get our make up touched up and nails done. Plus there was a range of tea/drinks and treats for us to enduldge in. What a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Plus I got to catch up with other beauty bloggers like the lovely Jen and Hayley!

Liz Taw, the hair stylist, gave me some great tips on how to use my straightening iron and velco rollers to create a 'blow-dry' effect at home! Basically grab a lock of hair & glide it through your iron's with a comb - then apply your velco rollers, spray some hairspray on them & let the hair cool. Then apply your make up, have your breakfast or just chill out and when you take the rollers out (once cool) you will have the same blow dry volume effect without the struggles of not having enough hands to blow dry & use a round brush all at the same time (I admit - I fully can't do this!) Give it a go, I'm really liking the results!

On the day Aussie also introduced us to their new 'Lusciously Light' conditioners!

I am already a big fan of AUSSIE shampoos and conditioners. My favourite is their 'Take the Heat' Range.
I personally don't mind this too much but a lot of people find their conditioners quite heavy! My views: This toner is absolutely my favourite of the range. It really cleanses the skin and leaves it feeling so refreshed without being harsh on your skin. So fresh - I loved it! The lotion is lovely but I have to admit that 'milky' cleansers just aren't really my kind of thing. These are both priced at £3.36. I would definitely re-purchase this toner!

BodyCare

My views: Another favourite from this range! With the recent harsh winter weather my skin, especially my legs, has been pretty dry and flaky :( After using this lotion for a few days straight on my legs I noticed a real difference; reduced flakeyness and softer fresh skin! I like how it absorbes into the skin quite quickly as some moisterisers can make your skin quite sticky for a while after applying. The smell is also nice and fresh and not too overpowering which can really put me off some moisturizers. Priced at £3.57.

HandCare

My views: No major comments needed, just a fab little hand cream for a fab little price of £3.05. Like it promises it leaves your hands smooth but not sticky, it just soaks into the skin!

LipCare

Aveda Smooth Infusion Experience %

Last week I was one very lucky girl because I got invited by handpickedmedia to attend an amazing event at the London Aveda Institute. I'd never been to an Aveda Salon before & their Covent Gardan 'flagship' store and training institute definitely blew me away. When we arrived we got the first class treatment with smoothies, champagne, nibbles and a tour around the institute.  The reason we were invited was to receive a 'Smooth Infusion' treatment! Basically this meant a wash and blow dry treatment as part of a monthly challenge for us to put to their newest haircare collection to the test! 

"With 40 percent of women seeking smooth, straight, frizz-free hair, Aveda’s 4-step smoothing system, Smooth Infusion, was designed to help achieve these results—leaving hair chic, straight and manageable for 12 hours."

We received a little speech from the Creative Director about the 'Smooth Infusion' collection and then all the stylist got to chose the blogger they would treat that evening. Lucky me - I got chosen by the fabulous Creative Director himself, Michael Lendon! 
Here we are in the 'before' picture taken by a professional photographer on the night:
To start the Aveda experience I had to smell 3 types of oils to see which one my current 'mood' preferred. The oil I chose was then applied to my hair & I received a luxurious shoulder and scalp massage. Michael shampooed my hair with the Smooth Infusion Shampoo, rinsed, and then applied the Smooth Infusion Conditioner and brushed this through with a comb before rinsing my hair. A little tip from Michael was to always quickly comb your hair after applying conditioner (you can do this in the shower) before rinsing it out as it will ensure a more even distribution of the product, meaning a better result! Once washed and clean, we could start the prepping and blow drying process!

Michael applied a small amount of the Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother to the mid and ends of my hair. Because my hair is naturally already quite smooth he said I only need a small amount (1-2 pumps), however if you are prone to quite frizzy hair feel free to use 2-3 pumps of this product. The Style-Prep smoother contains an exclusive plant infusion, a blend derived from organic aloe, maize and guar bean, which creates a smooth surface on hair. Plus it defends against humidity for up to 12 hours and a hydrolized wheat protein in the product protects against surface damage from heat styling! He also applied a small amount of the Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener to the ends of my hair to maintain a long lasting straight style! Then he styled my hair by blow drying it straight whilst creating some of movement in the ends using a round brush. He also gave me some great tips and pointers on how to achieve the professional blow-dry look at home! 

♥ Always blot wet hair with a towel to remove excess moisture. Don't rub, as rubbing creates frizz.

♥ When hair is 100% dry, use cool air to set - this closes the cuticle & ensures your smooth blow-dry will last longer.

♥ For thick/coarse hair, apply product before bed. This helps maximize smoothness & helps prevent excess volume in the morning.

After having my hair all looking amazing and feeling SUPER smooth, I got a little make up touch up and was taken to the studio upstairs for my professional 'after' shot! I'm not a huge fan of this photo, because it looks so official that I don't think it really looks like 'moi' :) But my hair does looks super smooth and perfect!

Hey my lovelies!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend? I had the PERFECT weekend with my bestie Lulu ♥

We had so much fun together! I loved showing her my new home town. We did loads of shopping - I crown her my official shopping good luck charm, because I got sooo many awesome bargains! (post to follow).  Beside shopping we ate heaps of delicious food, talked and talked and talked and just had a brilliant time! Being the darling that she is, Lulu got me a present from Holland! Let me introduce you to this super cute brand called 'Blond Amsterdam'.  

 

Blond Amsterdam was created in 2001 by Janneke and Femque, two blonde girlfriends who set to work designing earthenware. Now Blond Amsterdam's collection consists of dishes, bed linens, clothing, stationary, bathroom accessories, and greeting cards. Blond is sold in many department stores in the Netherlands, including V&D and De Bijenkorf. However, it is also sold in many small boutique gift shops throughout the rest of the country, and at the flagship store on Gerard Doustraat in De Pijp.

Golden Globes 2011 - Best & Worst

Last night the 2011 Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. As you all know I love seeing celebs on the red carpet, looking all glammed up and fabulous! Here are my best and worst picks of the event!

Best

Anne Hathaway in an amber tone Giorgio Armani Privé evening gown. This dress featured in the finale of the Fall Winter 2010-2011 couture collection. It's fully embellished with paillettes and Swarovski crystals. The dress features dramatic shoulders, long fitted sleeves and a low open back. Think she looks STUNNING!

Emma Stone looks peachy perfect in Calvin Klein matched with Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery. This the first photo's I have seen of her blonde and I think it really suits her. I know the dress is very simple but she looks so polished and effortlessly glamorous!

Sandra Bullock can not do a lot wrong in my eyes! She's is wearing a flowy soft nude/pink dress by Jenny Packham. I love the sparkly detailing on the dress and think her make up is so gorgeous. The perfect subtle smokey eye with nude lips! However as much as I adore her new bangs think this outfit would have looked better with an up-do. ps: the rumour is that Sandra is now dating Ryan Reynolds....Hmmm I don't really believe this rumour & I think they are just close friends but she's probably one of the only girls I'd be happy for him to end up with LOL! ;)

Mila Kunis, the Black Swan actress, in a Vera Wang dress, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Judith Leiber clutch and Yves Saint Laurent shoes. I think the green colour of this outfit is fantastic. Like the up-do and the simple jewellery to make her dress the main 'wow' factor of her look!

Worst

Jennifer Love Hewitt with boyfriend Alex Beh. Jennifer wore a Romona Keveza dress with Casadei shoes. She also wore a Jennifer Behr belt, a Sang A clutch, three Le Vian rings and bracelet. Don't really like anything about this dress, think the top part is strange and it's too white and wedding like! Also when watching the red carpet show on E! she looked super duper orange! Overdose on fake tan...

Helena Bonham Carter in a Vivienne Westwood floral print gown. No real explanation needed...I know she has a quirky and indiviual style but this dress and then the MISMATCHED shoes? Ok....NO!

Michelle Williams in a gown by Valentino paired with heels by Christian Louboutin and jewelry by Fred Leighton. A lot of people may dissagree with me on this one but sorry but just don't dig this dress.....I like her cute pixie hair &bright coral lippie but the flowers on that dress and the shoulder straps? Just not quite my style or something I'd ever wear.

Angelina Jolie in a long sleeves emerald green gown encrusted with Swarovski crystals by Atelier Versace, Ferragamo shoes, and Robert Procop jewels. (Brad suited up in a Tom Ford tux) Again a lot of people may dissagree with me here. I really liked how she chose to wear colour for a change and the green made her eyes 'pop' but I didn'tlike the fabric & look of the dress when you saw it in upclose pictures, it kind of reminded me of christmassy pailette fabric. 

Other not-so-hot picks: Natalie Portman, Christina Aguilera, Julia Stiles, Jennifer Lopez & Tina Fey.

Dump the Lumps with Feel Good Drinks!

For most people (girls anyway) the start of the new year is a time where we reflect on our eating habits & tell ourselves we will really try (lol) to watch our intake of alcohol, chocolates, fat and sugary stuff! Overall I'd say I am a pretty healthy eater already but oh dear I definitely pigged out over the holidays! (..well it's allowed at that time of the year right?) So the last few weeks I have been taking it easy & making sure I eat healthy again, just to balance things out!

So perfect timing when I got the opportunity to try some healthy NO sugar fruit drinks, courtesy of 'Feel Good Drinks'. I had never heard of this brand before so was keen to give them a go! Apparently a lot of drinks out there that claim to contain no sugar can sometimes have as much as 3 teaspoon fulls! (shock horror)

Feel Good Drinks drinks are packed full of good stuff and absolutely no added sugar or artificial nasties, so they’re overflowing with feelgoodness! Plus they taste delicious :)

♥ Orange & Mango Fruit Water

"It was sweet enough to satisfy my cravings (and no longer require my Coca-Cola fix). Texture is smooth so you're unaware that you're even drinking a fruit blend. Very enjoyable tastle, and a good size bottle to quench my thirst" Roz: This was my favourite because I love Mango juice!

"It’s very nice, refreshing. Doesn’t taste artificial, not too gassy & you can taste the lime. It would actually be a great alternative to an alcoholic beverage if you were out!"

"When I first opened the drink, it smelled really really sweet, which I was a bit worried about because I really don't like those sugared up juices, but the taste is really subtle. Nice apple and blueberry flavour and it counts as one of my five a day, yay! I like the packaging and that it's a glass bottle too, more easily recyclable than plastic."
♥ Cloudy Lemon (Sparkling or Fruit Water version)

I like lemon flavoured drinks so I really enjoyed the sparkling lemon drink! My friend however felt the lemon & carbonation combo made it a little sharp and acidic. I suppose we all have different taste buds ;)
♥ Cranberry & Orange Fruit Water

A really nice flavour, not too sweet and not too watery! Really refreshing plus a winner for people who are not big fans of cranberry juice normally because it's a great combination with the orange.

NOTD - Topshop Utilitarian

Hello my lovelies,
Yay it is Friday!!! :) I have been counting down to the end of this week for a while. Why? Not just because it's been a busy week but also because my bestie from Holland is coming to London for the weekend. She arrives this afternoon, I just can't wait! This means that I probably won't get much time to blog this weekend, because I will be too busy having fun girly time together ♥ That's why I thought I'd quickly share my NOTD:

This is 'Utilitarian' by Topshop. A little bit of a funny name I thought - so I looked up the definition:
utili·tar·ian (adjective)
1.of or having to do with utility

2.stressing usefulness over beauty or other considerations (designed for use rather than beauty)
3.made for or aiming at utility
4.of, or having belief in, utilitarianism

Haha I like point #3 - designed for use rather than beauty. LOL well I think this nail polish is a combo of both ;) Anyways, the polish is a dirty army khaki/green colour but when on your nails in some light it can almost become a very dark army brown. I've had it on my nails all week and have to admit I quite like it! Great polish for autumn or winter. Quality of the polish = not bad! It only started chipping around day 3 so was pleased with that. This picture was taken after applying 2 coats. It's fast drying & has a good little brush to apply the polish with. You can get it online here for £5.

Sorry Drew, but to me this is a serious fashion faux pas! It's such an odd-looking strapless gown with a gathered hemline - which made her look as though she had put it on the wrong way up and gave her NO shape! And to make matters worse, it was a bright orange which resembled that used in prison uniforms....On a more positive note, I did really like her hair and makeup. It made her look very radiant!

New Year Sales Zara OOTD & ASOS Haul

Happy Monday darlings!

I hope you all had a nice weekend? I certainly enjoyed the sunshine we had in London yesterday! I actually had to rummage around my room to find my sunglasses ☀ So are you as tempted by the new year sales, as I have been? I picked up this very dark blue dotted dress at ZARA back in Holland and wore it to work on Friday. Here is my OOTD:

I got so many compliments on the dress, so am really glad I got it. Plus it was a fab little bargain at only €16.95. I teamed it with a black ZARA cardigan, black tights, a black leather belt and black ankle boots by ALDO. MakeUp wise I'm wearing MAC Knight Divine eyeshadow, one of my all time faves!

People's Choice Awards 2011

The 2011 Award Season kicked of this week as the People's Choice Awards took place in Los Angeles. Signs of spring were in the air as celebs lined the red (actually it was blue..) carpet in a variety of beautiful and breezy shades (nudes, pastels, sparkly and golds were in abundance), patterns and styles. Short seemed to be the way to go this awards show! Here's a few pictures of the night with my Best & Worst picks:

Malin Akerman in a white J.Mendel dress. I know this outfit is super simple but just really like the winter white short dress combined with the red shoes and clutch. Also think her hair and MakeUp looks glowing & lovely! 

Taylor Swift in a soft, peach colored illusionary-inset J. Mendel dress (from the Spring 2011 collection). 

Really pretty! Think she needed a bit of magic tape to keep this look together but she looks polished & classy as always. Loving the red lip with this outfit. Not so much - the shoes...?

Ok I admit it, I don't really even know who this is! But apparently she's an actress called Virginia Williams. She wore a stunning beaded pale pink Oday Shakar dress. Beautiful & I think the shoes are perfect match for this outfit and love it that she put her hair up in a classy high poofy ponytail to show off the amazing back of the dress - thumbs up!

PS: Have to say I'm not a fan of Khloe's new hair. Think she looked too pale to pull this look off. I really think she'd suit red hair but just a slightly darker more auburn shade...What do you think?

Katy Perry in a Betsey Johnson dress. Sorry, love her to pieces, but the strapless, bright thing is getting a bit old for me.  Mrs Russell Brand took the lead this year with five nominations including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Song, Favorite Music Video and Favorite Web Celeb – winning Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Web Celeb honors.

Natalie Portman (newly engaged + pregnant!) wore a silk chiffon pleated dress from Jason Wu’s Pre Fall 2011 collection. I usually love her sense of style and I know she's pregnant but I feel this dress is a little too loose fitted/big on her, think she could have chosen something a bit more fitting and sexy?
