Sharing some of my favourite Cover Girls from the June Magazines!

Nicole Richie - That Magazine May/June 2011

This has to be one of Nicole Richie's best magazine covers ever, right? She posed for the second issue of That magazine and I love, love, love it! Really crushing on her hair and the beautiful cat-eye makeup. Hadn't heard of That Magazine before, as it's French, but think the photos of this covershoot are simply stunning!

Rachel McAdams on the June 2011 cover of US ELLE

Actually wasn't blown away by the cover photo but the editorial shots for the magazine are gorgeous!

In her editorial she models a mix of Burberry, Gucci and Moschino Cheap and Chic. 

I'm not really a big fan of Katy Perry but how great does she look on the June 2011 cover of Vanity Fair? She was photographed by the famous Annie Leibovitz & I think it's possibly the best she's ever looked.
The editorial with Katy is very Haute Couture! This is not a look that you'd normally see Katy in and I have to say I think it looks amazing. Love the Parisian feel to the shoot :) It's interesting to see Katy modeling pieces from the S/S 2011 Dior Couture collection throughout her Vanity Fair editorial, because so many celebs have stopped wearing the labels since the recent John Galliano scandal. 

"Britney's Back" claims Bazaar Magazine on the cover of their June 2011 issue! Love the white Bill Blass 2011 fall collection cut-out dress she wears on the cover plus the shot of her in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 Sheer Star Print Gown is very fun.

W magazine’s June 2011 cover stars former Charlie Wilson's War cast mates Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks, who reunite in the upcoming dramedy Larry Crowne. On the cover, Roberts wears a Dolce & Gabbana dress with inky lace sleeves and a wide Burberry belt. Loving the winged dramatic eye makeup on Julia. She looks amazing, can you believe she is a 43 year old mother of 3?

The accompanying editorial photos have a glamourous feel to them; no blinding Roberts smile but instead black-and-white shots that emphasize her strong cheekbones and mile-long legs!

About two weeks ago I was so lucky to have an opportunity to get all glammed up for a black-tie dinner out in the countryside. The company I work for had organised two amazing 'Away Days' for all their employees and partners at the b-e-a-u-tiful Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire. For the black-tie dinner I chose to wear an electric blue dress so I decided on a soft grey smokey eye. Check out my FOTN:

I love this bright blue dress. I got it about 3-4 years ago when I was on holiday in Noosa (Australia). It's by Zimmermann, an Australian swimwear & fashion designer. Also if you are wondering, wow roz your hair is looking really long.....well it's because I cheated :) I recently found my old clip-in hair extensions again and decided to give my hair that little bit extra oomph and length for the night, do you like?? xoxo

Best of Cannes Film Festival 2011

From 11-22 May the Annual Cannes Film Festival took place in south of France. 
Here are some of my favourite looks from the FestivalRachel McAdams is white hot in a Maxime Simoens dress with floral accents at the photocall for her new movie, Midnight In Paris during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. She also looked stunning in a sheer red dress by Marchesa at the festival opening ceremony. Two very different looks but both loved them!Bar Refaeli shows off her gorgeous gams in a Roberto Cavalli beaded and feathered champagne gown at the Amfar’s Cinema Against AIDS Gala on Thursday, which was held during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. She supported Roberto Cavalli again at the premiere of the movie 'The Beaver' looking amazing in a navy blue gown with embellished cut out designs by the designer.

Uma Thurman in a feathery white Versace dress. Loved the turquoise earrings with the soft but sexy white dress. Gwen Stefani rocked a really dark smokey eye but brightened it up with hot pink lipstick. The (very low cut) sequined black jumpsuit was funky and very a la Gwen! The ever elegant Diane Kruger in a golden Calvin Klein dress. Penelope Cruz showed off her amazing post baby body at the premiere of her latest movie 'the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' in a violet and gold Marchesa gown from their 2011 fall collection.

A little while ago I got introduced to Purity Organic Skincare, which is a British brand that believes in 'less is more in beauty'. Directions: Gently massage into damp skin, using circular movements & rinse thoroughly with warm water. 
My thoughts: The facial wash and exfoliation is very sensitive to the skin, leaving the skin fresh and moist – unlike many facial washes with aggressive chemicals.

♥ Conditioning Cleaning Lotion (150ml, 98% Natural and 83% Organic) - £4.99
"An effective skin conditioning cleanser with a blend of clever ingredients which effectively break down and gently remove the day's grime and make-up. Special ingredients combine with the softening, moisture retaining and conditioning Sweet Almond Oil, Aloe Vera and Glycerine base: Oats condition and restore, Amino Acids help skin to absorb moisture, Avocado Oil conditions the skin, and Euphrasia and Rose Water tones the skin. 
Directions: Massage a think layer onto the face & either rinse with water or remove with damp cotton wool.
My thoughts: My favourite product of the two. A very moist cleansing lotion leaving the skin feeling cared for. I used this as a standard conditioning cleanser with cotton wool pads and also with a little rinse of water after use, either was effective for me, but conveniently the cotton pads is a personal choice.

I am a Girl About Town..

After attending a recent M·A·C event I was left feeling super inspired to be a bit 'bolder' with my makeup choices! I was craving to wear a bright pink lip :)  
On the model at the event, they used M·A·C Show Orchid lipstick so a few days after the event I found myself at my local M·A·C store drooling over all their lipsticks to find myself a bright pink lippy! After a lot of umming and ahhing, I chose Girl About Town! This lipstick is described as a 'Fabulous Fuchsia' colour and has the Amplified Creme formula. 

M·A·C Senior Artist Neil Young told us a little tip that day "Whatever I want the focus to be, whether it is brows, eyes, lashes, lips or skin thats the first thing I start with." So when I started to create my Girl About Town FOTD I did my foundation, applied the lipstick and then looked to see what it needed to complete the look (eyes, face wise) I think it's a great tip because it means you don't go over the top with too many parts of your makeup. Also if you’re always looking for the next, great mascara, here’s one to try. It’s MAC Haute & Naughty Lash (as used in this face of the day).

NARS - Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself

The other night I was invited to Harvey Nichols in Knightbridge to check out the new NARS makeup book, plus to experience one of their amazing 'MakeUp Your Mind' masterclasses for myself!

In 2001, François Nars published Makeup Your Mind, a best selling beauty manual featuring glossy photographs uniquely overlaid with clear instructional guides. The first in a series of three books, featured professional models photographed 'before' (without makeup) and 'after' (with makeup), demonstrating the transformative effect of makeup effect plus instructions on how to achieve the looks at home! 

In his new book, Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself he takes the before-and-after concept to the next level by transforming 56 real women and men scouted on the streets of New York City. The people vary in age from 16 to 64, and represent a wide range of countries including Russia, South Afrika, Guatemala and Sweden. I love the fact that in François books, he doesn't just write about the makeup application, but shows readers how it’s applied by including “before” and “after” pictures overlaid with clear paged diagrams, it gives you a great instant visual of the transformation!

At the event I got to have a good look through the book and check out all the amazing transformations!
Then I got told to pick a look that I liked, for one of their talented makeup artists to transform moi :)
I chose a look called 'the Ballerina' because I really liked the soft eye matched with a bright pink lip!This is me at the end of my Makeup Your Mind Masterclass showcasing the finished look! I really loved the result, because it's quite different to my usual makeup looks! On my lips he used the new 'Carthage' Pure Matte Lipstick, which has just launched as part of their Summer 2011 Collection. I want.... ;)

Also check out this cool website they created for the the Makeup Your Mind book! Here you can select some of the looks from the book and 'try it for yourself' - it will provide you step by step instructions how to recreate the look!

If you are looking for a beauty manual book then I think Makeup Your Mind; Express yourself is fantastic because it provides very detailed instructions to create so many different looks ranging from natural and demure to dazzling and outrageous. It's also lovely to see the looks on real men and woman with different skin tones, face shapes, ages and ethnicities. I also really like that on the clear overlay it will say 'champagne eyeshadow' for example so if you don't have the particular NARS product used, you can still recreate the look with a similar product that you do own.  The book provides insider knowledge from François but also encourages people to be who they are and express their individuality through makeup. In a recent interview with François he talked about how he came up with the looks for each subject:
"Instead of crafting each look based on what suited the individual's personality, I focused on bringing out her or his natural beauty, rather than concealing it. Ideally you want someone to say to you, "you look great!" rather than, "your makeup looks great". You should always see the person first and the makeup second" I think this is SO true!

Me & my 'Stripes' addiction...

Morning everyone,

Urgh I am NOT happy with Blogger today! They did some maintenance to their network and somehow they managed to lose everyones posts and comments since Wednesday 11 May. They are promising this will be restored but I'm slowly losing hope that my last NARS post will actually return :( I will wait another day before I will start to (painfully) rewrite it, boohooo!! However in the meantime thought I'd quickly post two OOTD pictures! So yes, I think I may have a 'stripes' addiction. When in the shops I'm always picking up the items with stripes thinking, oh I want! I try to control myself though, just so I don't end up with a wardrobe full of striped clothes haha :) Some people say stripes aren't flattering but I totally disagree, love them! I heart Orange! >

Happy Hump Day!

Also thought I'd share some pictures of my most recent visit home to the Netherlands to celebrate 'Koninginnedag'. Koninginnedag means Queen's Day, which is a national holiday in the Netherlands. Celebrated on the 30 April, it's the official birthday of Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands. Queen Beatrix's actual birthday is 31 January, 30 April was the birthday of her mother and predecessor, Juliana. The holiday remains as an April observance in honour of Juliana and in the anticipation of better weather than would be encountered in January! On Queens Day the whole country sees large-scale celebrations, with many concerts and special events in public places, particulary in Amsterdam! One basic rule for Queens Day is to wear something ORANGE! People go all up in the 'Orange Madness' by dressing completely in orange, dying their hair, painting their faces and even drinking orange tinted drinks!

For Queens Day this year, me and 25 friends rented a boat to cruise the canals of Amsterdam, saoking up the sun, dancing it up, drinking and basically just having a blast with hundreds of thousands other people in Orange! It was one of the best days of my life, I truly LOVED it...which is probably clear by the constant smile on my face in the pictures below ;)

Looks like crazy fun right? There were about 800,000 people in Amsterdam celebrating that day and you can see the canals and crowds got pretty busy! However, I can definitely recommend anyone to go to Amsterdam one year to celebrate Queens Day. The atmosphere is just so buzzing and friendly, it's hard not to have a great time :) Me and my friends loved it and think I will most certainly be back next year!

Also I will also quickly answer a question I get asked a lot by my international friends!
"What's the deal with Dutch people and (their obsession with) orange, because your flag is red, white and blue?!" The answer: Orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family. The lineage of the current dynasty, the House of Oranje-Nassau, dates back to Willem van Oranje (William of Orange). But while the color orange has royal roots in the Netherlands, today it symbolizes a broader pride in the country and in being Dutch! So there you go, maybe you've learned something new today :) I hope you all have a wonderful day! xoxo

Sweet like Chocolate..

So pretty much every girl loves Chocolate, right? Plus a lot of girls also love Bronzer, right? Now you might be thinking, OK Roz where on earth are you going with this, because what do they have to do with each other… Well, let me introduce you to Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder! As you can see it’s a bronzer that looks like Chocolate ♥ :)

I really love this bronzer, and no, that’s not just because it reminds me of Chocolate! The powder is finely milled, blends nicely and it lasts all day on my skin. They say the bronzer is ‘enriched with flecks of gold to give you a radiant but non shiny glow’. You can see the little flecks in the pan but it comes out pretty matte once applied and the colour is a lovely tan shade; not too flat, orange or brown! Personally, it is one of my favourite bronzers to use as a contour as it looks very natural. The bronzer is pressed in a chocolate block form and comes in a cardboard box. It’s pretty sturdy and there’s a lot of product which means it will last for ages. It also smells nice and sweet (not quite like chocolate, but still yummy!)

Check out some looks I did with the bronzer here, here and here. So as you can see, I have been using this bronzer a lot recently and think it’s one of the best drugstore bronzers out there. Keen to try it? Well if so, the good thing is you won’t have to fork out a fortune as this bronzer will only set you back £6.99!

M.A.C BAFTA Runway to Red Carpet Event‏

Last week I was so lucky to be invited to a M·A·C BAFTA Runway to Red Carpet Master-class event! Because M·A·C is the official beauty partner to the Phillis British Academy Film Television awards taking place on Sunday 22 May at Grosvenor House in London, M·A·C Make-Up Artists from the M·A·C Pro Team will be on hand to provide make-up services to VIP's in town for the awards at the M·A·C Beauty Style Suite at Pelham Hotel in South Kensington.  

A group of us bloggers got an amazing look around the Beauty Suites and got to experience a style suite red carpet masterclass hosted by M·A·C senior artists, Lynsey Alexander & Neil Young. They demonstrated two contemporary yet iconic looks and shared many fantastic tips!

On the night I took some little video's while they were doing the make up and caught some great tips on camera which I wanted to share with you all:

Here even more top tips on creating stunning red carpet makeup and keeping it camera flawless all evening long! And even though you or I probably won't be attending a red carpet event any time soon haha, I think these tips are perfect for any girl that wants to create beautiful long lasting evening makeup looks:

♥ Lynsey Alexander on skin:

'For camera ready skin it's important to spend a bit of time prepping before you apply foundation. If you have time, exfoliating will ensure your skin is at its smoothest, allowing further products to glide on easily. Add a brightening serum before you apply moisturiser or alternatively a luminising cream such as M·A·C Strobe Liquid. Apply foundation to create a dewy glowing skin, my favourite is 'Studio Sculpt' foundation because it is gel based and acts like a second skin leaving a creamy satin finish on the face.  Set your base with a light sweep of M·A·C Mineralize SPF15 Loose Finishing Powder and make sure you have a blotting compact for touch ups (this will remove shine, without adding more coverage).' Lynsey Alexander

'With intense flashes from the cameras on the red carpet the face can sometimes become 'bleached' out, flattening the features. Adding highlights to the cheekbones, cupids bow and brow bones works beautifully. ♥ M·A·C Senior Artist Pablo Rodriguez on eyes:

'Eye makeup for red carpet is generally very neutral. Neutral meaning more brown and greys used rather than any other colour. This however does not mean natural. There is ALWAYS a glamour element to it, Sculpt the eye shape with long socket lines, and shading under the eyes too, M·A·C shadow in Wedge is a great shade to do this with.  Eyebrows must be groomed and defined, but still kept soft. M·A·C brow set in clear is a perfect tool to achieve this!'

'There are many ways to approach your makeup styling once you know what you are wearing. If the dress and hair reflects an iconic era then it makes a great statement to continue your makeup along the same theme. We see it often with regards to the classic red lip/brow and a chignon hair style. However try to keep the feel modern by considering texture as much as colour, to bring the makeup up to date and on trend. Be very cautious about matching makeup to the colour of the dress, more often than not a monochromatic makeup works best, so select tones that work with your dress rather than it match it exactly. Also remember, less is more! When the dress is already making a big statement, you can never go wrong with a classic contemporary makeup.'

I truly loved this event! It was fabulous to get one-on-one time with such talented senior makeup artists to be able to ask them questions and I ended up leaving feeling very inspired! :) Now I can't wait to see what looks M·A·C will be creating on the celeb's on May 22 at the BAFTA Awards. May Cover Girls =

Sorry, I am a bit late with my May Cover Girls post as the June mags are already hitting the stands. But still quickly wanted to share my May faves :)

The May 2011 edition of Harper's Bazaar features model Kate Moss in Alexander McQueen for their Fashion Royalty issue. As the fashion world honours Alexander McQueen with an exibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, Kate Moss stars in Bazaar’s special double cover May issue. She wears both the ruffled organza dress in which she appeared as a hologram in the A/W 2006 Widows of Culloden show and then in an exquisite white gown from Sarah Burton’s first collection . Love her glowing complextion on the left photo!

January Jones is pretty in purple on the cover of Marie Claire UK’s May issue. I really like her eye makeup in the cover shot! The 33-year-old Mad Men star posed in Gucci for the shoot in Los Angeles. It recently hit the news that January Jones is preggers and that there's no mention of a guy in her life which means she will raising the child as a single mom, interesting goss! ;)

Newly wed Reese Witherspoon is always such a pleasant appearance on every single magazine she covers. This time, the 35-year-old actress is elegantly posing for the Vogue May 2011 issue, the US edition, photographed by Peter Lindbergh. On the cover, Reese wears a Roland Mouret Frits silk and crepe camisole and glamorous marcel waves. The issue also featured some amazing photographs of Reese at the circus in line with her new movie 'Water for Elephants' that has just come out in the UK!

I think the glamorous retro feel of this shoot is just lovely! Her make up in the middle pic is stunning and I adore the red dress!! Reese is definitely one of my favourite Hollywood actresses. I recently watched the movie 'How Do You Know' in which she starred with Owen Wilson and would recommend it, it was super cute!

Glee stars Lea Michele (Rachel), Dianna Argon (Quinn) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) look beautiful in blue for the May 2011 cover of Marie Claire magazine. Not only are ladies featured on a cover together, each received their own separate cover and gave fierce faces.

My Oral-B Power Challenge - The Results

As you all might know, about a month ago I started the Oral-B Power challenge. This meant using their PC500 Power Electric Tooth Brush for 30 days instead of my ordinary manual toothbrush, to see if it could convert me, to using an electric toothbrush forever.


So one month has passed already (doesn't the time fly?) and the results are in! I thought I'd share my review with you all in a quick video. Apologies in advance for the bad lighting etc. I filmed this late at night after work so unfortunately I am not looking the flashiest.....


Haha I am such a disaster on video! Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this review and little video and I definitely think that I'm converted to the electric toothbrush going forward :)

Best & Worst: Met Ball 2011

On the 2nd of May the annual Costume Institute Gala took place in New York City at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's also known as the Met Ball and it is pretty much the equivalent to the Oscars of fashion. You can check out my best & worst picks from the 2010 Met Ball here!

This year the famous and fashionable attended the Gala to honour the work of the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen. After the Met Ball takes place , the Costume Institute at the Met debuts the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibition from  4 May - 31 July, a complete retrospective of McQueen’s most beautiful and shocking works.

As you know I love checking out which stars rocked the red carpet and which bombed! So here are my best and worst picks of the event! :)

♥ Gwyneth Paltrow exuded major hotness in a shimmering body-hugging gown from Stella McCartney

♥ Brooklyn Decker in Michael Kors. A simple dress but just LOVED the bright pink colour!

♥ Blake Lively in Chanel Haute Couture. She looks very elegant and the dress suits her new hair colour. 

♥ Ashley Olsen in black & cream vintage Christian Dior couture. Initially I didn't like this dress at all but it kind of grew on me and now I really like it; it's different but still glamorous and suits her style.

♥ Maggie Gyllenhaal in Stella McCartney. A stunning colour blue and I'm always a big fan of sequins...

♥ Ginnifer Goodwin in a custom made Topshop emerald green cutout dress. I love the fact that this dress is by Topshop. The green looks amazing on her & I think the hair, make up & jewellery suited the look perfectly! 

♥ Diane Kruger looks like a true Hollywood star in Jason Wu. So elegant yet also a little sexy. 

♥ Emma Roberts in Michael Kors. Simple but very modern & young which suits the 20yr old starlet!

♥ Dianna Agron in Michael Kors. Again quite simple but liked the red, the simple hair & accessories. 

♥  Sarah Jessica Parker in a fully beaded Alexander McQueen gown.

Worst

♥ Jennifer Lopez ruined her Gucci gown with flower-embellished sleeves, overcomplicating a beautiful dress!

♥ Serena Williams in Oscar de la Renta. Maybe she got too caught up with the Royal Wedding hype?

♥ Karolina Kurkova in Jean Paul Gaultier. I know lace is hot but this dress just doesn't do it for me! 

♥ Kristen Stewart in a Proenza Schouler gown. Boring, unflattering and ill-fitted. 

♥ Freida Pinto in Chanel Haute Couture. Is this supposed to be a mix of office fancy dress? Yuck..

Loving Pink OOTD

Hey everyone,

I don't know what it is, as I never used to be much of a 'pink girl', but I am just LOVING pink at the moment. Every time I am browsing the shops the first pieces that catch my eye are normally a bright pink! I picked up a cute bright pink silky tank top from ZARA a few weeks back so thought I'd share a recent OOTD with it. I decided to team it with jeans, a blazer and flat boots....
